CSI Christ Church Munnar

Explore the Splendid CSI Church and its Adjacent Places


The CSI Christ Church is curdled in history and served a significant role during the British Colonial Era. This splendid church was built of rough hewn granite with un- plastered walls which was constructed by the British in 1910. The decrepit glass windows depicting the saints and Biblical characters lend the church its different charm. It has an amount of assumption plaques in anamnesis of British era tea planters.

The history of Munnar CSI Christ Church is unique. Its absolute history begins with a cemetery which is absorbed to it. Mrs. Eleanor Knight, the wife of H.M Knight, the General Manager of the acreage was active there in 1894. After the buriel of Mrs. Knight, some added British were as well active there. Later on Knight presented that breadth as an abode of burial.

It was formally adored on April 15th 1900 on Easter Day by Rt. Rev. Noel Hodges. The foundation rock of the church was laid on March 1910 by Sir. A. K. Muir. It was committed on Easter day April 16th in the year 1911 by Rev. W.F.B Hoysted who was the clergyman at that time. The British handed over the church to CSI North Kerala Diocese when they left the High Range in the year 1981.

Till again both the Indians and British admirable in the aforementioned abbey at altered times. Now it is the arch abode of CSI Munnar Pastorate which has about 1000 Tamil families and 18 out base churches.

Lakkom Waterfalls

Lakkom waterfalls, amid about 25 km from Munnar appear Udumalaipettai, is visited abounding tourists. This admirable avalanche is an allotment of Eravikulam beck of Eravikulam National Park, which is one of the capital tributaries of Pampar River. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) is amid 18 km arctic of Marayoor on SH 17 in the Marayoor and Kanthalloor Panchayats of Devikulam Taluk in the Idukki commune of Kerala accompaniment in South India. It is one of twelve Wildlife Sanctuaries a part of the protected areas of Kerala. It is beneath the administration of and abutting with Eravikulam National Park to the south. Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary is to the arctic and Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary is to the east. It is truly a paradise for the nature and wildlife lovers.

Kurinjimala Wildlife Sanctuary, Powerhouse Waterfall, Westend Cottage, Chithirapuram are some other allure and which easily impress the vacationers. Winters season from November to February are considered to be the best time to visit and explore the church and especially during the Christmas and New Year time.

Christ Church is open on all days from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
