Goa Tourism Development Corporation Plans To Develop Its Residencies

Panaji: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is finally getting aware about the present day market competition. As for now it has schemed to improve its residencies situated at chief areas of the state and are also planning to structure more residencies. This is to happen in a joint venture with a private party.
The GTDC's instant plan is to include improvement of the 58-bedded Panaji Residency which is situated near the old secretariat building in the city. The prime reason for the abrupt renovation of the hotel facing Mandovi River is because even with its perfect location though, it has lost its attraction compared to other hotels providing better amenities for the tourists.

Cabral revealed that GTDC will spend around 4 to 5 crores in renovating the rooms at the Panaji residency. The tender will be shortly issued for the selection of a bidder.

The reconstruction of Panaji Residency will be initiated in the end of the season which will probably fall during April to May. On a trial basis, first only two rooms of the hotel will be restructured taken.
He said, "We will reconstruct two rooms on a trial basis first and then take over other rooms."
Though GTDC is planning to advance its other residencies, he said they will not be able to do so immediately because of the lack of funds, which is the reason for seeking private investment to improve as well as build new properties.
He also added, "Because of the lack of sufficient funds, we want to develop properties in Anjuna and Benaulim as a joint venture with private partnership."
Soon, the entire 12 hotels of GTDC are situated at major tourist locations in Goa will be equipped with CCTV cameras.
Cabral explained the decision behind the installation of CCTV cameras principally, due to security reasons. He also accepted that none GTDC’s residencies are equipped with CCTV cameras. As for quite some time, police has been insisting on installation of CCTV cameras in the hotels and guest houses.
The police instruction for installing CCTV cameras came after the incidence of the horrific 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai.
